Haiku North America 2015 - Union College, NY

At the Haiku North America 2013 banquet, Michael Dylan Welch announced that 2015 conference would be held October 14-18, 2015 at Union College in Schenectady, New York.

The organizers are members of the Route 9 Haiku Group which publishes the biannual anthology, Upstate Dim Sum.

The Organizers are Hilary Tann, Yu Chang, John Stevenson, and Tom Clausen. Hilary Tann and Yu Chang both teach at Union College.

I'm so excited! This is right across town for me. I have a baby at home, so it's hard for me to travel to conferences. I've been wanting to go to one for a few years now, so I had hoped one would come somewhere in the NE. This is beyond my wildest. Yay!

I was glad to see the excellent promotional video about Union College's welcome for our Haiku North America in 2015. Such beautiful photos of the historical college campus, forests with its fall foliage, and the enthusiasm of Hilary Tann and Yu Chang to be the
sponsoring faculty, Plus with John
Stevenson's and Tom Clauson's help plus plus all will go well.

I was spoiled to be only about 40 minutes from this year's conference in Long Beach so going to Upstate NY will be a stretch from California. I look forward to be able to work out all of the arrangements and room sharing in order to be able to participate
again in the future haiku experience in two years' October 14-18, 2015 at Union College in Schenectady, New York.

Hi,
Lots of +++ events for me in Oct., 2015:
Church Historical Home tour in Boston area,
50th Torrance High School Reunion Oct 10,

and yeah- now HNA Oct 10-16.

(At least the wonderful Laughter Yoga Cruise was last year and not his year....)

Any one coming from So. CA? or a lady from ? looking for a room mate?

Hilary Tan mentioned there was a nice train ride along the Hudson River to Union College which sounds good from the ___________ airport....

and now to check out the logistics of the times, locations, and any extra events....

So glad I stayed that extra day at HNA in Seattle about 4 years ago to go to Blake Island and to see the +++ Shaman program where I enjoyed the special mealy muscle soup and salmon buffet.

(No comment about being lost on the hike with no phone reception....But saved by a young man who was lost too and he had a better sense of direction than I had. :-)

so I didn't have to use any of my excuses running around in my mind for missing the plane.... back home to LA.

IS THERE A SIGN UP FOR MORE INFO ABOUT THIS CONFERENCE?

Can't wait. This is definitely inked onto my calendar for the Fall. Last major conference I attended was Ottawa. I bring a much more advanced haiku person to this one and look forward to letting her fun free!

What's the best way to get their via public transportation from Egg Harbor City train station, Atlantic City airport, or Philadelphia airport? If, as Hilary said above, if there's a train that runs along the Hudson to the college, that would be great. Maybe I can take a train to NYC from somewhere in South Jersey. Or, is there an airport nearby to the college? OR, is anyone coming from the South Jersey shore area I could either carpool with or team up with? I'm also quite concerned about transportation costs on top of lodging and conference fee. Hope I can make it work!

Penny - Amtrak has a station in Schenectady, and you can see from this link that it is a few blocks from the college: http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=am/am2Station/Station_Page&code=SDY

But the Albany International Airport is a lot closer to the designated hotel, which is in Colonie (a town right next to Schenectady). http://www.albanyairport.com

Thanks so much, Leena! Since I posted the above, I found out that I can fly from Philly into Albany for the low $200s round trip, and that it will take *only* a little over an hour. I think that makes more sense than a longer train trip. So now I'm psyched! The conference fee is low enough that I think it's doable for me, and I am sharing a hotel room. ... Thanks much for pursuing answers to my questions / concerns! Hope to meet you there!~
