Haiku North America Boat Cruise:
Visit Historic Blake Island and Tillicum Village

Come join us for the ultimate Northwest experience on Sunday August 7, from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. We have secured a unique, inclusive sightseeing cruise adventure, complete with haiku walk, at beautiful Blake Island State Park. Plus a unique salmon-bake lunch experience (with vegan/vegetarian options) and Northwest Native American dance performance in a Longhouse at Tillicum Village.

Our escape begins with a 45-minute cruise from the Seattle waterfront to Blake Island State Park. For thousands of years Blake Island was an ancestral summer camping ground for Coast Salish tribes (also known as the Lushootseed peoples) who lived on the coastal waterways of Puget Sound. The cruise director for our trip to the island will share historical facts about Seattle and its Native American heritage. Upon arrival at Tillicum Village, we will have two hours to explore the densely wooded Island and its beaches, some with views of Mt. Rainier. There are many forested walking and hiking trails and five miles of beaches—perfect for a haiku walk! At 11:45 a.m., enjoy an appetizer of steaming clams in nectar. Inside the Longhouse, watch as whole salmon are cooked over an alderwood fire on cedar stakes in the traditional Northwest Coast Indian style. You will sit down for a fabulous vegan-friendly buffet meal followed by a new 25-minute show highlighting the Coast Salish tribes. The show keeps to the authenticity of the tribes by combining live historical Native American dance with modern native storytelling and symbolism. The ancient native culture is married with modern technology in a twist that creates one of the most compelling native cultural experience in the United States. After the show, see a salmon cooking demonstration, meet show performers, see the large masks first-hand, or explore the Heritage Room. We will return to the Seattle waterfront with wonderful views of the Space Needle, waterfront, and city skyline, by 3:30 p.m. From there, you can arrange transit to the airport or your hotel via taxi or light rail. Or you can stay in downtown Seattle and explore nearby Pioneer Square, the Underground Tour, or Pike Place Market.

Tickets are normally $80 for the general public, but we have a special discount rate of $66 for Haiku North America—this includes an extra two hours on the Island exclusively for our haiku group (rate goes up after June 30). You won’t want to miss this quintessential Northwest experience. For more information about our destination, please visit www.tillicumvillage.com, which we hope will convince you what a great experience this boat cruise will be. We have a short slide show viewable below.  See additional photos here.

To participate in this boat cruise, please select the boat cruise option on your Haiku North America registration form. Yes!  Your friends and family can join us on the trip!  Please indicate on your registration if you would like to add anyone.  If you have already registered and wish to add more, contact Angela Terry at amterry9@comcast.net .  We can add folks as late as August 4 at 4 p.m.
