In its broadest sense "ma" is a concept that invites introspection into the idea of space: space out of space; architectural space using colour, shape, line, geometry; bridging spaces between words, notes, gardens, cultures, geographies, histories, physics. "Ma" may also be interpreted as "gap" or "pause"; the existence of "ma" in artwork is "an emptiness full of possibilities", and negative space; in this age of Covid, the safe space. As Angela Merkle said in her famous speech, "it will be the space between us, that will save us."
