What to Bring to HNA 2013 in Long Beach, CA:

Hello! Members of the HNA local Organizing Committee and the HNA Foundation Board look forward to meeting all of you at the 2013 HNA conference. To help enrich your experience, we'd like to offer the following list of items you may wish to bring to the conference (we likely will add to this list as the conference draws nearer):

  • Comfortable shoes (we will likely have several opportunities planned for walks on board the Queen Mary and in the Long Beach area)
  • A camera (for those memories you'll want to capture in image as well as haiku)
  • Travel mug and/or non-disposable water bottle (let's be conscientious caretakers of our environment)
  • Layered clothing (it can be warm in Long Beach in August, yet there are likely to be cooling ocean breezes in the evenings) . . . Weather in Long Beach: Here is a link to the Weather Underground site to give you an idea of what the weather will be like around the Long Beach, particularly as August 2013 approaches._
  • Haiku keepsakes to share (a haiku tradition, though optional. In the past, people have brought trifold pamphlets, handmade books, bookmarks, postcards, etc., that feature their haiku for sharing/exchanging with others.)
  • Books to sell at the bookfair
  • Items for the silent auction (These can be books or any other items that would be of interest to haiku poets. All the money from the silent auction goes to the HNA for funding conferences.)
  • Checkbook or cash to pay for bookfair and silent auction items  (we'll know later if you'll be able to use credit cards for your bookfair purchases)
  • Haiku for the anonymous workshops (these can be either haiku you have written during the conference, or haiku you've written earlier)
  • Haiku and senryu for various readings (We likely will have several opportunities to read our haiku aloud, so please do bring some to share)
