Stanford University's Steven D. Carter will be speaking from his book, Haiku Before Haiku: From the Renga Masters to Basho, on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Haiku North America.
Carter's book explores various examples of ancient hokku, the initiating verse of renga (linked verse), some written as early as 500 years before Basho. The poems were all translated by Carter.
