GENERAL INFORMATION

Haiku North America 2017 will take place in Santa Fe, New Mexico, from September 13 to 17, 2017.
Haiku North America is designed for, and open to, everyone—beginners and seasoned specialists alike. We are expecting participants from Japan, Australia, and Europe and well as, of course, Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Conference sessions and activities as well as most meals will be held at the
Hotel Santa Fe, Hacienda & Spa. Click here for conference registration information and here for the Conference Registration form and here for the Conference Program.  Click here for more information about visiting Santa Fe, “The City Different.”

Getting to Santa Fe
By air. American Airlines has nonstop service to Santa Fe Municipal Airport (SAF) from Dallas (DFW) and Los Angeles (LAX), and United Airlines has service from Denver. Ground transportation and car rentals are available at the airport.
Flights into and out of SAF tend to be quite expensive, and most travelers choose to fly via the Albuquerque International Sunport, which has good service from around the U.S. and a few foreign cities. Sandia Shuttle Express operates 30 shuttles a day for the hour-long trip to Santa Fe hotels, including ours, for $30/person one-way and $55 round-trip. It would be wise to make a reservation as soon as you know your flight schedule.

By train. Amtrak has one passenger train a day in each direction on its Chicago–Los Angeles route. The eastbound train stops at Lamy, a village about 20 miles from Santa Fe, at 1:15 p.m.; the westbound train stops at 2:20 pm. Shuttle service into town is available.

By car. Santa Fe is served by Interstate 25, a major north-south highway. Parking at the Hotel Santa Fe is free.

By Conestoga wagon or stagecoach. Santa Fe is the terminus of the historic Santa Fe Trail and features coaches from Franklin, Mo. Service has been irregular recently, however, so be sure to check with the company (no website) before making reservations.

Conference Hotel
The conference hotel for Haiku North America 2017 is the Hotel Santa Fe, Hacienda and Spa. All HNA activities and most meals will take place here. Jump to the Conference Hotel webpage for more information and to make reservations.

Conference Activities
Presentations, workshops & readings. Featured will be four full days of formal presentations and panel discussions about haiku history, criticism, and contemporary writing; haiku readings and book-launch readings; arts and crafts exhibits, workshops, and demonstrations; book fair and silent auction; and much, much more! Click here for the current Program Schedule.  Come back to this website often—and follow the HNA blog —for updates.
Conference anthology. Attendees are urged to submit haiku for the 2017 Haiku North America conference anthology. Each registered attendee will receive one free copy of this anthology at the conference. Click here for details.
Arts & crafts.  Arts & crafts workshops will be featured on the HNA 2017 program, for example, sumi-e, calligraphy,  and possibly Japanese paper marbling. While we won’t have gallery space to exhibit art, haiga will the the focus of several panels at the conference.
Silent auction. HNA 2017 will continue the tradition of holding a silent auction, proceeds from which will help defray the costs of the meeting. Click here for details.
The 2017 auction will be especially grand because a large consignment of interesting books and other valuable items from the estate of Elizabeth Searle Lamb, “The First Lady of Haiku,” has been donated by her daughter, Carolyn Lamb. HNA attendees are urged to comb through their belongings and donate appropriate things to the HNA Silent Auction. Donations are tax-deductible in the United States.
Book fair. Poets and publishers are invited to send or bring copies of their books for sale at the HNA 2017 Book Fair. Click here for details.
Haiku contest. Poets are invited to take part in a haiku contest that will run during the conference. The theme will be based on a painting by William Berra titled “New Mexico Colors.” William Berra is an American painter of landscapes, figures, and still lifes.  He is represented by galleries throughout the United States and his work is in many public and private collections.
Group photo. Continuing a long tradition at our conferences, HNA co-organizer Garry Gay will gather all attendees together for a group photo. Specific date and time will be included in the Conference Schedule later. One copy of the group photo is included in the HNA 2017 registration fee.
